Commercial Photography Introduction, September, 2021

New Voices initiated its commercial photo apprentice program in September, 2021.

This eight week course guided students through a series of creative and technical exercises to build a set of skills necessary to undertake basic event, fashion, sports and location photography assignments. Meeting once per week for two hours, a small group of five students worked with equipment provided by New Voices including cameras and artificial lighting. The course began with basic photo composition exercises with DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras and moved on to to specific shooting exercises at area markets, hotels and tourist sites. Students also practiced their skills with models using up to three external strobe lights for professional effects.

Graduates of the commercial photo introduction course moved on to become photo apprenctices in the community with privileges to use New Voices cameras, lighting equipment and studio portrait space for their own personal and commercial photography projects.
